Wimbledon tennis star Ross Hutchins may have endured a short comeback at the Wimbledon Championship, but his determination to climb the rankings has not been dented.
Hutchins, a doubles wildcard entrant alongside Colin Fleming, was knocked out of the men’s doubles tournament by the 16th seeds Pablo Cuevas and David Marrero in the first round [3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6].
The 29-year-old, with Heather Watson, was then eliminated from mixed doubles at the same stage by Mikhail Elgin and Anastasia Rodionova [1-6, 6-1, 7-9].
This year’s championship comes six months after Hutchins returned to action on the court after he spent last year being treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Speaking after the men’s doubles defeat, the resident of Wimbledon Village said: “It felt great to be back although we’re disappointed to lose.
“I was very excited to be back, and there were no nerves before the game, we were pretty relaxed.”
He added: “But we’re not progressing as well as we’d hoped. We’re training hard every day. We know everyone else is doing the same, so it’s something we have to keep sticking at.
“It’s not like I feel that I’m way off the pace. It’s just a question of maybe five per cent here and five per cent there.
“Tennis is fine margins, but it is something for us to aim for.”
