Detectives are questioning a mother-of-two after her two young children were found dead by their father when he returned home from work last night.
The bodies of the 10-week-old baby boy and his one-year-old sister were discovered after he got back to the family home in Killarney Road, Wandsworth.
The mother, who has not been named, had allegedly attempted to slash her own wrists in an apparent suicide bid, although the London Ambulance Service have confirmed she did not require hospital treatment.
Forensic officers were at the scene this morning and detectives are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area.
The woman is in her mid-30s and is currently being interviewed in a south London police station.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "Inquiries are underway after the death of two children in Wandsworth.
"Police were called to an address in Killarney Road SW18 at 7.25pm on Wednesday, May 9.
"The ambulance service also attended but a 10-week old boy and a one-year old girl were pronounced dead at the scene.
"A woman in her mid-30s was arrested in connection with the incident. She is currently in custody at a south London police station.
"Detectives from the Child Abuse Investigation Command are leading the investigation, and inquiries continue into the full circumstances of the incident.
"Officers are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident."
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at just before 7.30pm to the Killarney Road to reports of an incident.
"We sent three ambulances, a motorcycle responder and a duty officer.
"Two innocents were dead at the scene and no one was taken to hospital."
A post-mortem examination was due to take place to establish the cause of death.
According to a report, the two children did not have any visible injuries.
