Get fit and healthy with The SunWalk London in Battersea Park

Put your best foot forward for a rootin’–tootin’ family experience in Battersea Park as The SunWalk comes to London on Sunday 24th July 2011! Yeeeeeee haw!

This unique event is organised and hosted by Walk the Walk, the UK’s leading grant-making breast cancer charity and organisers of the famous Power Walking marathon The MoonWalk London, which takes place every May in the city.

The SunWalk London will transform Battersea Park – also the location of the first ever MoonWalk London – into a Wild West! Try your luck at the bucking bronco or lassoing, hang out by the tepees, get your feet tapping with a bit of line dancing and feed the family with the hog roast! Whatever your fancy, this hoedown will keep the family entertained all day!

With three Power Walking distances - 5k, 10k and half marathon – The SunWalk London is achievable for people of all ages, fitness levels and abilities. With just weeks of Power Walking training, you will be well on your way to becoming fitter, healthier and a half-marathonee! What’s more, Walk the Walk is offering one free child (place 0-12 years) for every adult* that enters, so there really is no excuse not to get the whole family involved!

Walk the Walk events are famous for the spectacle of thousands of breast cancer fundraisers Power Walking through cities in their brightly decorated bras… and The SunWalk London is no different! All walkers over the age of 12 (and including the men!) will join in with the bra-nival! Everybody can really let their imaginations run wild-wild-west – think checked bras, feathered headdresses and cowboy hats a-plenty.

Celebrities are already signing up to take part in the event, including Strictly Come Dancing star Erin Boag, who is looking forward to transforming herself into a cowgirl for the day: “I'm really excited to be supporting the first SunWalk event in London on the 24th July at Battersea Park. Walk the Walk is a charity very close to my heart and it was a real inspiration to take part in The MoonWalk London.

“The SunWalks are a great family alternative to The MoonWalk, for walkers with children that want to take part and for those who want to tackle shorter distances or feel walking through the night isn't for them. They also have a fantastic carnival atmosphere with music and fun for all the family. I'm sure the Wild West theme of The SunWalk London will also inspire some fabulously decorated bras!”

Nina Barough, founder and Chief Executive of Walk the Walk, is excited to announce this new event:

“The SunWalk events across the UK have been such a success and have helped to raise an incredible amount of money for breast cancer causes. This year we decided to take The SunWalk on tour with this brand new event in Battersea Park, the site of the inaugural The MoonWalk London fourteen years ago. The SunWalk London is more than just a Power Walking challenge… Battersea Park will be filled with music and entertainment for all the family ensuring that everyone has a fabulous experience! So, even if you have never taken part in anything like this before, take this opportunity to sign up to the challenge and help make a difference. You can raise money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes, get fit, have fun, and even sing your socks off, all at the same time!”

Walk the Walk also organises other power walking challenges in the UK:
