Battersea residents can get their electric blankets safety tested for free this week.
Trading standards officers have arranged the blanket checks at local fire stations on Wednesday and Thursday.
The fire brigade say that faulty blankets cause around 5,000 fires each year, and previous testing sessions have revealed potentially dangerous faults.
Half the blankets tested have been found to be hazardous, with incorrectly wired plugs and fuses or exposed heating elements.
Approved experts will test the blankets and fire officers will be on hand to offer home fire safety advice.
The council's trading standards spokesman, Councilor Sarah McDermott, said: “These checks are carried out very quickly and they are free of charge.
“I would urge anyone who uses an electric blanket to have it tested. It could save your life.”
