Battersea High Street market is to be given a new look by a local business group.
The Battersea High Street Traders Association (BHSTA) aims to rejuvenate the Saturday Market in a bid to boost local trade and make the high street more attractive.
The group, which was set up in March, agrees that Battersea High Street’s Saturday Market has significant potential to become a leading market in the area, and an attraction in its own right.
Ravi Govindia, Wandsworth Council's regeneration spokesman, said: “Since joining forces these businesses have levered in extra funding for their street and made excellent progress improving the Saturday market.”
Four new traders have taken out permanent market pitches and more are expected to follow in the run up to the festive period. Ahead of the Christmas market, on December 12, the BHSTA have arranged for the high street to be dressed up in fairy lights throughout the festive season.
They have also designed a new business directory to help promote the street's niche shops and they are working closely with the local Safer Neighbourhood Police Team to improve safety and security in the area.
The High Street already boasts a popular blend of independent shops, boutiques, pubs, cafes and restaurants and the Saturday Market offers everything from vintage clothing and flowers, to fresh fruit and veg.
