A pub in Battersea has been given a new lease of life thanks to its enthusiastic management team.
Carlos Wilson and his partner Sandra have been at the Battersea Bar on York Road, formerly known as The Chopper, for just under a year and the couple have transformed the Admiral Taverns owned pub into a vibrant live music destination that’s also known for its top quality food.
Carlos said: “I’d never originally intended to get involved with the pub industry, and was actually looking to set up my own restaurant when a friend of mine told me that The Chopper was available.
“I soon realised that running my own pub would give us the chance to serve food as well as explore other exciting options, like running music and club nights, and decided to take the pub on.”
Carlos, who formerly ran his own takeaway, mans the kitchen at the Battersea Bar, serving up tasty Caribbean food as well as a range of traditional English dishes.
The pub is also becoming increasingly popular due to the diverse range of entertainment on offer, which includes regular pool tournaments, open mic nights, Reggae and R&B club nights and barbeques.
Carlos said: “I’ve never looked back since taking on the Battersea Bar and I’ve found running my own pub to be really rewarding. Myself and Sandra are looking forward to developing the strengths of the pub even further in the coming years.”
Paul Holmes, marketing communications manager at Admiral Taverns, said: “Carlos and Sandra are doing a great job at the Battersea Bar, and we’re sure the business will continue to be a thriving success.
“It just goes to show that experience isn’t necessary if you want to get into the pub trade but having the right personality and attitude is crucial.”
Admiral Taverns is always on the lookout for new landlords and would like to hear from anyone interested in taking on their own pub. For more information, contact Admiral Taverns on 0845 070 8950 or visit www.admiraltaverns.com.
