Police will be holding a roadshow at Battersea Library this Wednesday (October 20) to highlight the dangers of identity theft.
It is one of many exhibitions to be held across South West London as part of National Identity Fraud Week (October 18 to 24).
As one of the fastest growing crimes in the UK, identity fraud can affect both individuals and businesses.
According to CIFAS - The UK’s Fraud Prevention Service, in the first three quarters of 2010, levels of identity fraud increased by almost 10% (9.68%), when compared with the same period in 2009, to 79,871 cases of identity fraud.
This equates to an annual cost £1.9 billion to the UK economy.
Traditionally, Battersea is one of the worst places in the country for identity theft despite the issue gaining more exposure.
As well as advice the sessions will also have shredders, ID protection stamps and security scissors.
