One popular way to celebrate to Christmas season is to bundle up and take a walk through a festive light trail with friends or family.
South London will be playing host to a number of light shows this years – with some of them costing absolutely nothing.
From the ever-popular returning Christmas at Kew to Greenwich’s free Sparkle in the Park light trail – we’ve created a guide to all the south London light trails happening this year.
Sparkle in the Park, Charlton House
Where? Charlton House and Gardens, Charlton Road, London, SE7 8RE
When? November 28 - December 1, 4:30pm - 9pm
How much? Free, no booking required.
If you’re on a budget, head over to Charlton House in Greenwich where you can visit the popular ‘Sparkle in the Park’ light trail, running for 4 days.
Between November 28 and December 1, this 17th century house and gardens will be illuminated with magical light displays created by FESTIVAL.ORG.
The event will also be accompanied by festive performances from local schools and community choirs.
For visitors with additional needs or sensory disabilities, the event will also host a quiet hour session on December 1 from 4:30pm, where there will be reduced sounds, no flashing lights and a lower number of visitors.
Christmas at Kew, Kew Gardens
Where? Kew Gardens, Richmond, London, TW9 3AE
When? Selected dates from November 13 to January 5, 4:20pm - 10pm
How much? Prices start at £25.50 for adults, £16 for children and £77 for families, while under 4's and carers go free.
Returning for another year, Christmas at Kew is one of London’s most popular light trails, running 3km through the historic botanical gardens of Kew.
This year's display will feature 20 installations across the gardens ranging from firm favourites like the light tunnel to lakeside projections.
During the trail you’ll also find a range of stalls, where you can grab a drink from one of the many food vendors, and there will also be a chance to spot Father Christmas himself.
Winter Light at Southbank Centre
Where? Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX
When? November 13 - February 2
How much? Free, no ticket required
If you’re looking for something a little more central, Southbank Centre is hosting an outdoor artwork trail, where you’ll find a number of colourful illuminated works of art by artists such as Sophia Al-Maria and David Batchelor.
Southbank, and with Southbank’s popular Christmas market just a short walk away it makes for an affordable night out.

Winter Light Trail at Vauxhall City Farm
Where? Vauxhall City Farm, 165 Tyers Street, London, SE11 5HS
When? 30 November - 22nd December, 4pm
How much? Adults £6.13, children free.
Head over to Vauxhall’s City Farm where you’ll find their light trail, for 22 days from December 1 to December 22 the garden will be illuminated with lights, with a special switch on event on November 30.
You’ll also have a chance to see the animals, with the farm open between 10:30am and 4pm.
