Harringtons Eel and Pie House on Selkirk Road is set to close after 116 years.

The beloved Tooting eatery, known for its traditional pie and mash, announced the closure on social media.

The family-owned business said the decision was "not easy" but necessary to "move forward."

They added: "The property is up for sale and once it has sold we will be closing our doors.

"But until we have sold, we are still open and selling hot pie and mash for all our beloved customers to enjoy."

They went on to thank customers for their support and the "wonderful memories over the years."

The closure news has left many loyal customers heartbroken.

One Instagram user, hederamusic, said: "Such sad news.

"Been in with my dad and loved it.

"My auntie Maureen was a massive fan and got it there weekly."

Another customer shared: "Absolutely devastated.

"I was weaned on pie and mash, Harringtons Wandsworth Road, then onto Tooting when that one closed.

"I will definitely be back before you close."

Another added: "My whole family have been coming to your pie and mash our whole lives.

"Going back to my great grandparents who used your shop also.

"Our favourite pie and mash shop.

"A lifetime of memories.

"So sad to hear.

"We will be up for a fix soon."

Another said: "Gutted, but I'll bury my head in a pie mash next week to lift my spirits until I'm forced to say bye.

"The last good reason to still visit Tooting."

The family has promised to update customers about the closure date once the property is sold.
