A cyclist has died in a crash involving a lorry in Brixton. 

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called by colleagues from the London Ambulance Service to the junction of Mervan Road and Effra Road at 4.15pm today (October 14). 

At the scene, emergency services closed Effra Road in both directions.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services the cyclist, a man in his 60s, died at the scene. 

His next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for the Met has confirmed that the driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the road block remains live. 

Any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage of the collision, is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 4830/14Oct.
