To celebrate National Tequila Day this month, a Battersea landmark is offering tasting sessions from 109 metres in the air.

In celebration of National Tequila Day on July 24, the popular lift housed in one of the former chimneys of Battersea Power Station will be hosting a 50-minute tasting session, where you’ll get to try a selection of Tequilas and learn about them all as you enjoy 360-degree views of the London skyline.

I visited to try the experience ahead of its launch later this month and it's definitely a novelty way to spend an evening.

The experience first begins with a brief look through the exhibition, where you can learn more about the power station and its role during the 1920s powering London with electricity.

This was then followed by a brief immersive experience, where you get to see full projection immersive imagery of the lift and learn more about its backstory, before heading up to the lift itself to get stuck into some Tequila tasting.

Now I’ll admit I knew very little about Tequila prior to the session, but we were joined by our knowledgeable guide Jane Peyton from The School of Booze who talked us through the popular drink.

Tequila is a form of Mescal harvested from the Blue Agave plant in Mexico in the province of Tequila.

Like wine, Tequila has different varieties with different aromas, flavours and vintages, with some of the oldest being aged for over a decade.

During the experience we tried four different options including Ojo de Tigre Reposado, VIVIR Tequila Añejo, Rooster Rojo Reposado and El Tequileño Platinum.

Flavours ranged from earthy and light to smoky with a hint of pineapple, while we also learned about the proper way to taste Tequila and about the ageing and harvesting process.

During the experience you also get to take advantage of 30 minutes to snap photos and survey the London scenery from above.

The lift offers 109-metre-high views of London, where you’ll spot many famous landmarks like The Shard and The London Eye.
