A newborn baby was found dead at an address near Euston after the child's mother presented herself at hospital.

Police were called to reports of a woman who had given birth presenting at a hospital at 2.10pm on Monday (July 8).

Metropolitan Police officers attended a residential address in Taviton Street, Euston, where the body of a newborn baby was found during a search.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, child neglect and concealment of a birth. He is still in custody at this time, Scotland Yard says.

The baby’s mother is in a stable condition.

A crime scene remains in place.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarb Kaur, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a very complex and sensitive case.

“At this early stage, we continue to work alongside the NHS to ensure the mother of the baby receives the necessary care in hospital.

“My detectives from Central North Public Protection team are working on a range of enquires and we await the results of forensic examination before we can establish the full facts of the investigation.”
