A man from Wandsworth has been jailed after he was caught smoking a joint outside Clapham Station – leading to further drugs being uncovered.
On July 26, 2022, officers arrested Dexter Sharpe outside Clapham Junction station, where he was seen smoking a joint.
A further search revealed he was carrying a mobile phone, over £2000 in cash, and 25 wraps of heroin worth more than £500, in his backpack.
He was then arrested and taken into custody where officers discovered a quantity of cannabis among his possessions.
Despite claiming the phone, cash, and heroin were not his, Sharpe failed to provide an explanation for having them.
Sharpe, 38, of Timsbury Walk, Wandsworth was jailed for five-and-a-half years on June 26 by Inner London Crown Court.
He had pleaded guilty to possessing class A drugs and cannabis with intent to supply.
Investigating officer DC Emma Martin said: “Sharpe’s sentence reflects the severity of his crime and how serious the courts regard such offending.
“Drugs are a blight on communities and this is yet another example of our intervention removing more drugs that were destined for the streets.
“Anyone involved in the transportation of drugs on the rail network should beware – we have eyes everywhere - you will be caught and face the consequences.”
