A sixth form college in Wandsworth has been graded as 'good' by Ofsted, with recognition for the 'outstanding' way it caters for learners with high needs.
St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College received the ranking after an inspection in November 2023, and was praised for its focus on personal development and support for students with high needs.
The inspectors awarded the college 'good' grades for the quality of their education, behaviour and attitudes, education programmes for young people, and the leadership and management of the institution.
Ofsted recognised the strong religious and ethical ethos at the school, respected by both staff and students, and further reinforced by weekly religion and philosophy lessons.
The report also mentioned the "welcoming nature of the college" with the students flourishing in its "nurturing and inclusive environment".
Inspectors recognised that the tutorial programme was of "exceptionally high quality" and noted students' positive contributions to their local community through the "well-organised" house system.
Ofsted said that students praised the wide range of enrichment activities available, as well as the college's gym facilities, which allowed them to become more "resilient, confident, and independent".
Inspectors were also impressed by the college's robust safeguarding management.
The report said: "Students appreciate the regular safety briefings that staff give them about staying safe in the local area.
"They are clear on the safeguarding procedures and whom to contact if they need help.
"When students raise issues about safeguarding or safety around the college, staff respond swiftly and effectively.
"Students feel safe at college."
Following their visit, the inspectors also highlighted school leaders' clear understanding and response to local and regional skills needs.
The college's collaboration with stakeholders to identify priority skills and curate curriculums to meet these skill shortages was commended.
College Principal Graham Thompson said: "We are delighted that Ofsted have recognised the high quality of teaching, support, advice and opportunities we strive to provide students at St Francis Xavier Catholic Sixth Form College.
"We work very hard to ensure our students succeed in their studies and develop the skills needed to succeed in their future education and careers."
