A Land Rover overturned after crashing during a police chase in the early hours of this morning (January 9) before catching fire.
At around 1.50am, a Land Rover Discovery flipped onto its side after hitting “street furniture” on Wandsworth Road close to the junction of Union Grove.
The car had allegedly failed to stop for police nearby.
The vehicle then caught fire and was extinguished by crews from London Fire Brigade who worked to make the area safe.
London Fire Brigade was on the scene at 1.56am and they left by 2.45am.
Four people in the car were treated at the scene by paramedics but there were no serious injuries.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, failing to stop for police and aggravated vehicle theft.
A video on Twitter showing debris scattered across the road is captioned: “Woke up by an extremely loud bang.
“Thought the flat had been hit by something.
“Turned out to be a car chase by police on Wandsworth Road.
“Two people were led out of the overturned car and handcuffed.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At around 1:50am on Monday, 9 January a Land Rover Discovery was involved in a single vehicle collision in Wandsworth Road, close to the junction with Union Grove, in Lambeth.
“The driver had failed to stop for police nearby.
“As a result of the collision, the vehicle overturned and caught fire. The London Fire Brigade assisted.
“Four men were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, failing to stop for police and aggravated vehicle theft.
“There were no reports of any serious injuries.”
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Wandsworth Road in the early hours of this morning.
“One vehicle had collided with street furniture and crews worked to make the scene safe.
“Four people were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews. “The Brigade was called at 1.56am and the incident was over for firefighters by 2.45.
“Firefighters from Clapham fire station attended the scene.”
