A Metropolitan Police officer has been given a final warning after he was found to have sent an email containing homophobic content to dozens of colleagues.
PC David Bewick, attached to the Met’s Central South Command Unit, faced a misconduct hearing which concluded on Thursday, August 26.
He was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in respect of Authority, Respect & Courtesy, Discreditable Conduct, Duties & Responsibilities, and Equality and Diversity.
On 13 October 2019, whilst on duty, PC Bewick sent an email and attachment containing homophobic content from his MPS account to 55 colleagues within the organisation.
The matter was reported to the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) on 30 October 2019.
PC Bewick, who worked in the south London unit, was placed on restricted duties ahead of the hearing, and has now been given a final written warning.
Chief Inspector Matt Cox, DPS, said: “The Met will not tolerate the sharing of any material that could be deemed as discriminatory and it is especially shocking when Met systems are used for this purpose.
“We expect all of our officers to uphold our high standards of behaviour and will take action when those standards are not met.”
