A man has been seriously hurt in a crash in Putney in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, August 24).
Images taken at the scene of the crash on Upper Richmond Road around 6.30am showed the aftermath of the crash, with an overturned three-wheeled moped visible.
Debris and equipment were seen scattered on the road while police cordons stretching almost to Putney Station had been set up.
Responding to a request from the Wandsworth Times, a spokesperson for London Ambulance Service (LAS) confirmed that a man had been treated at the scene:
"We were called at 1.31am today (24 August) to reports of a road traffic collision on Putney High Street.
"We sent an ambulance crew, two medics in cars, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched by road London's Air Ambulance.
"A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority," the spokesperson said.
The Metropolitan Police later confirmed that the crash had occurred as officers pursued the driver of a car that had failed to stop.
A spokesperson for the Met said:
"At approximately 01:30hrs on Tuesday, 24 August, officers attempted to stop a car after it had failed to stop for police in the Putney area.
"The subject vehicle collided with a moped on Putney High Street close to the junction with Upper Richmond Road, SW15.
"The rider was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
"The driver was arrested at the scene.
"The Directorate of Professional Standards and Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed."
