An Earlsfield gym owner has come second in the world in the CrossFit games.
George Simonds-Gooding, the owner of Parkside Gym on Knaresborough Drive, journeyed to Wisconsin, USA last week to compete in the international fitness championships.
After three days of tough competition, the 45-year-old placed second at the 2021 CrossFit games in the neuromuscular division.
Mr Simonds-Gooding has Charcot Marie Tooth Disease (CMT) a rare, progressive condition that damage causes damage to the peripheral nerves.
Yet he completed in six rounds of extreme physical activity, which included running, rope climbs, weights.
Mr Simonds-Gooding said the win was “life changing”
“To get second felt absolutely unbelievable – very empowering.
“It’s not about the condition it’s about pushing as hard as you can within your limits,” he said.
The 45-year-old opened his Earsfield gym in 2019, a “hard” time to grow a new business during the pandemic.
The space specialises in CrossFit – a branded fitness regimen that involves strength conditioning.
Mr Simonds-Gooding trained at his gym with only four weeks notice that he would be entering the 2021 Crossfit games on July 27 to Aug 1.
However, he said the challenge had given him a “good grasp” of what was possible for going forward in life.
