A daring protestor has climbed on top of a crane on a building site in Wandsworth this morning, sparking an emergency services response.
Met Police have closed the roads around Nine Elms Lane as a precaution, and say they have been at the scene trying to engage with the man for several hours.
It has now emerged that the man is a 69-year-old protestor carrying out a 'death-defying daredevil act of solidarity for Palestine', according to pro-Palestine activist account on Twitter.
The man is up there with 'no safety net', and he is reportedly planning on remaining up on the crane, overlooking Vauxhall Bridge, 'for days'.
A Met spokesman said: "Our priority is the man's safety and officers are attempting to speak to him. As yet, he has not engaged with any of the officers on the ground."
Major disruption is expected due to the incident this morning, and drivers are urged to find an alternative route.
