Proposals have been submitted to section off parts of Clapham Common for a range of outdoor events this summer.
EventLambeth – the Council’s events service – are seeking planning permission to host 12 events over a 63-day period from May 8, 2021 and October 2, 2021.
The proposals submitted to the Planning Applications Committee ask for:
“Temporary use of Clapham Common for a range of events in 2021, involving installation and de-installation of temporary infrastructure including fencing, lighting, PA systems, Stages and other temporary structures, and other ancillary works.”
The Committee will consider the proposals when it next meets online on April 20.
The Council’s Events Strategy 2020-2025 is considered alongside the application, which gives the Council and local community greater control over the scale and management of events on Clapham Common while ensuring a “sustainable benefit to parks and local communities.”
EventLambeth works with event organisers of over 300 community, and commercial events across the borough’s parks, open spaces and many highway locations including street parties.
Of the events proposed for this summer, six are commercial, five are charity and one is community focussed.
A Lambeth Council spokesperson said: “This application is part of our coordinated and well planned efforts to manage events on Clapham Common.
“This does not permit EventLambeth carte blanche to hold events on Clapham Common – it covers specific events and means community groups and charities do not have to apply separately.
“If the application is granted, it will not change any of the event application processes.”
