Two generous children, who were dismayed that NHS nurses would only be getting a 1% pay increase, have decided to give hospital heroes a token of their gratitude.
The Government’s announcement in March—that nurses could only be afforded a marginal pay-rise—attracted widespread criticism after the contributions from frontline workers in the pandemic.
Leading the outcry was the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), which called this “pitiful”, arguing that its members should get 12.5% instead.
Jasmine and James, siblings from Wandsworth decided to set up a fundraiser for staff at their local hospital St George’s, Tooting.
However, Tim Hodges said this was not the first time his children had showed they cared.
“In December 2020, my two children wanted to give back to NHS staff who were risking their lives through this horrific pandemic.
“We decided to make a small token of our gratitude to them accompanied by a letter of thanks from my children.
“But, upon hearing the news that NHS staff will only be receiving a 1% increase in pay, my kids wanted to do something more!” said the father-of-two.
In line with World Transformation Day on the 4th April the family are asking trying to raise £4500 for St George’s workers.
Mr Hodges added:
“It's a small contribution which we hope goes a long way in telling them we do care and very much appreciate what they are doing.”
