A mother and daughter have successfully campaigned for a new zebra crossing on a dangerous junction outside a school in West Putney.
Andrea Gilbert and her daughter Maicha Gilbert-Mahile started the petition in January to reduce the risk at an accident blackspot near Ark Academy.
Parents from the school raised concerns that drivers sped-up on the bend in Wildcroft Rd, making it unsafe for students taking the bus.
According to teachers, four pupils have been knocked over recently at the Green Man Exchange.
At a transport scrutiny evening in February Wandsworth Council agreed to put a crossing between Carslake road and Hayward Gardens.
Ms Gilbert said she and her daughter were “delighted” at the news.
“The children's safety going to and from school was our priority for doing the petition. We would like to thank the parents, teachers and local MP Fleur Anderson MP for supporting the petition.”
Transport spokesman Cllr John Locker added:
“We have looked at this junction as a result of pleas from parents and teachers at the academy who have expressed concerns about pedestrian safety at this location.
“Having investigated traffic conditions we agree that there are changes that could be made to improve safety for pupils and as result we will soon be providing a zebra crossing and making changes to parking rules.
