A Putney-born boxer has won the Commonwealth Heavyweight title in his fourth professional fight.
Joe Joyce beat Jamaican Lenroy Thomas in the second round to win the title at the O2 Arena in Greenwich.
Joyce started quickly and floored Thomas with a body shot at the end of the first round.
During the second, Joyce’s combinations which ended with a right hand saw Thomas on the canvas again.
Joyce, who live in Clapham Common, followed this up with a precise left hook on his opponent’s chin which took Thomas’ balance, causing referee Terry O’Connor to stop the fight at two minutes and 36 seconds in the second round.
