This Friday, Growhampton have invited school children from Sacred Heart Primary School to come visit our edible campus and celebrate Food Revolution Day. We’ll be running an exciting gardening and cooking session for young students to teach them where their food comes from and the importance of eating healthy.

Food Revolution Day is a campaign started by Jamie Oliver and is fighting to put compulsory practical food education on the school curriculum. By educating children about food in a practical, fun and engaging way, the plan is to provide children with the knowledge and skills they need to lead healthier, happier lives. Making practical food education a compulsory part of every school curriculum across the world is the goal and that’s why Jamie has launched his petition calling on all G20 countries to sign up to the strategy.

Every child should know how to plant seeds, to witness food growing, to tend to it, nurture it, harvest it, have fun cooking it, and most importantly, to enjoy eating and sharing it. Food education is a complete necessity in reversing the poor health of future generations. That’s why on Friday we’ll be picking various salad leaves with the children, identifying and tasting the leaves and taking them into the kitchen to make a delicious salad to enjoy. The children will also take a bag of salad greens home with them to show their parents the salad they picked and to encourage their parents to have a go at growing their very own too.

Growhampton supports Jamie Oliver’s mission to bring good food to our future generations and on Friday we’ll be doing our bit to show young, receptive minds how fun and easy heating healthy is. You too can do your bit by signing Jamie’s petition and help get food education onto the agenda. Please sign up here and together let’s make a positive change.

Power to the people!
