Children at the Mosaic Jewish Primary School have been preparing for both Hanukkah and Christmas, with a theme of remembrance.
To mark Armistice Day the children visited the Wimbledon War Memorial and learned about Paul Mervis, a member of the South London Jewish Community and soldier of the 2 Rifles Battalion.
Lieutenant Paul Mervis died during a foot patrol in Afghanistan in June 2009.
The children decided to make cards for soldiers in the armed forces and with the help of Lieutenant Mervis’ family they sent some of their creations to his former colleagues in Afghanistan.
Headteacher of the Southfields school Kate Baum said: "We are immensely proud of the children for their thoughtful and creative work. We hope that the members of 2 Rifles enjoy the children’s cards and being remembered during the festive season when so many members of our armed forces are far from their loved ones."
