The Minister for Schools Lord John Nash has confirmed the funding for a new free school.
Rutherford House School, which will be located in the former Balham Youth Court, in Balham High Road, has confirmed it will be opening in September.
A funding agreement between the trust and government has been agreed, which means the school can make formal offers to 56 reception class pupils.
The school has also been able to appoint headteacher Gina Nicholson, with more staff in the process of being hired.
Miss Nicholson said: "This is another milestone in the progress of Rutherford House School and the Trust is delighted that our team’s dedication to create an outstanding school at the heart of the local community has been recognised by the highest education authority in the UK."
The school will open as primary school for children aged four to 11 years old in September.
