A Wimbledon singer with an inspirational story will perform a free gig next month.
Lead singer Yasmin Kadi of Kadi and the Trix fled Sierra Leone 17 years ago during the civil war.
She won a scholarship to a Chiswick stage school and worked as an actress in a number of West End musicals before she decided to follow her dream to become a singer songwriter.
BBC London Introducing have played her music and the band won Best Unsigned Band – judges choice at Emergenza, London.
“Trust your instincts,” says Yasmin when asked what her message to aspiring singer/songwriters would be. “Don’t listen to people telling you to be somebody else.”
Kadi and the Trix; the Bedford, Bedford Hill, Balham; June 6, 8pm; free; visit thebedford.co.uk; call 020 8682 8940.
