Battersea Art Centre will celebrate the opening of its new open-air courtyard with a run of Little Bulb Theatre’s Extravaganza Macabre in July and August.
The 75sqm outdoor space described as "the UK’s most intimate open-air theater infrastructure", has been designed by architects Haworth Tompkins.
Running between July 26 and August 26, the show is set in Victorian London and promises to treat audiences to "wafts of opera, close-harmony acapella, chimes and euphonium".

Alongside the show the art centre will offer a range of themed food and drink including Victorian style pies, traditional ginger beer and London gin with Friday and Saturday performances being proceeded by ‘musical knee’s ups’ in the Art Centre’s very own Scratch Bar.
The courtyard, which is part of a nine-year capital projact, was designed using a testing method called "playgrounding" where ideas are tested and shared to "find the most innovative approach".
Developed by the award-winning national touring company Little Bulb Theatre, Extravaganza Macabre tells "the tale of two passionate lovers separated by a freak storm which leaves their fate in the clutches of a scheming villain set on keeping them apart forever".
Extravaganza Macabre is the latest in a series of ‘Playground Projects’ at Battersea Arts Centre supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Battersea Arts Centre is still working on the restoration of its main, Grade II* listed, Grand Hall which was devastated by a fire in March 2015.
