Gran Canaria is known for its beaches, mountains, culture and having pretty good weather all year round – the perfect place for us Brits to escape the cold for some guaranteed sun, sea and… Spas!

With the likes of Playa Del Ingles for the partiers, Las Palmas for a city feel, or Puerto De Mogan for those fancying a trip to the island’s very own stunning ‘little Venice’ tucked away, there’s pretty much something for everyone if you hop on a plane for a mere four and a half hours from London.

But, what people might not know so much about in Gran Canaria is the island’s focus on wellness, with an abundance of spa hotels, treatment hubs, and beautiful nature spots that make you feel zen.

I was lucky enough to spend three nights and four days on the beautiful Canary Island this year with my boyfriend, and I’m already looking at when I can go back. Sh, don’t tell him… Lovely people, delicious fresh food, spas to take you out of this world, and most importantly that infamous rush of heat when you get off the plane.

We stayed in Puerto De Mogan, which was one of the most beautiful parts of the world that I’ve ever seen, with a hotel that makes grandeur and class feel like an understatement.

Our stay at Hotel Cordial Mogan Playa – rated as 4*

Situated in the fishing village of Puerto de Mogan, this hotel is a masterpiece of architecture with a grand glass and greenery focussed reception area and grounds to wow anyone.

It’s spacious and makes you feel like you’re in a whole different world, and it’s nice to have the option to spend all your time in the hotel or have an area to wander to outside.

With two pools, hundreds of rooms set in different buildings, a church, sports courts, an arcade room, gym, human-sized chessboard, a Michelin star restaurant, buffet, snack bars and more, this hotel is a winner for families, friends, and couples too.

We stayed here for all three nights, enjoying three breakfast buffets, two dinner buffets, and one lunch buffet – all brimming with choice.

You feel spoilt at dinner - with salad bars, meat bars, fish bars, pasta bars and more, and not to mention a dessert table with a full-sized chocolate fountain each night.

Our room was of a more authentic than modern nature, with a sea-facing balcony, stunningly grand bathroom and most importantly a large amount of wardrobe space!

The two large pools both have pretty bridge features, picturesque surroundings, enough sunbeds for all, and even a couple of private Jacuzzis to enjoy.

With poolside restaurants and snack bars serving anything from fresh fish to salads, toasties and smoothies, there was never one hungry moment in the sun.

Favourite part of hotel: The spa and the secret exit at the back… Don’t get the wrong idea here, hear me out… The hotel has an exit which leads to the most beautiful port buzzing with tourists, locals and restaurants. We left the hotel for dinner on one of the nights and enjoyed the most succulent fresh fish with views of the sunset, sea and fishing boats. A band had set up in the bandstand and it was playing music which had people up dancing during dinner. This was an absolutely dream.

Inagua Spa and Wellness rating: 5! Picture this… You choose from a huge array of treatments – anything from a Gran Canaria massage to a relaxing pedicure, and come out of your zen into a tranquil indoor pool with sofas, loungers, a steam room and a sauna, before you head out into the private spa garden with foot pools filled with hot and cold water, a salt-water pool, jacuzzi and Balinese beds to spend the day on.

This is a secret hidden gem of the hotel, and is worth taking the time to spend a day in.

We also visited the Salobre Hotel Resort and Serenity – 5* for the day, and this was a hotel of dreams and beyond.

With infinity swimming pools on pretty much every floor, taking a dip while overlooking the golf course and mountains of Gran Canaria can only be described as lush, heavenly and out of this world.

The spa and Vitality pool were again one of my favourite parts, with tranquillity, serenity, peace and luxury at the centre.

Wandsworth Times:

There are multiple restaurants with different food choices and cuisines, and I’ll definitely be going back to spend more time here in future.

We even found a secret part of the hotel... I won't give away too much about where but if you find a secret gate by some rooms, you might just end up at your own private pool overlooking the hills...

We took another trip to the Seaside Palm Beach Hotel – 5* which was brimming with activities for people of all ages throughout the day – including pool yoga and pilates.

With two large swimming pools, a beautiful zen spa and fabulous restaurants, this is another recommendation to add to the list.

We ate at one restaurant on the edge of the pool, with fresh fish, burgers, meat, pasta and salads on the menu to cater for all tastes.

Our last visit was the Gloria Palace San Agustín Thalasso & Hotel – 4* where we spent most of our time at the Chill Out Gorbea Terrace.

The hotel is suitable for all ages, with a large swimming pool and waterslide on the ground floor, and for those wanting something a little bit more luxe, a stunning terrace on the roof.

With views over the sea, a pool, loungers, sofas, a bar and a restaurant, it’s the perfect place to watch the sunset with a cocktail and put the world to rights over a board game, or sit peacefully with a good book.

It feels like a separated part of the hotel, as with the sea water circuit in the thalassotherapy centre, which has varying temperatures, hydromassage stations, counterflow swimming, microbubble seats, water jets and water falls.

It’s one of those places that can cater to everyone’s needs, be perfect for all ages and keep everyone happy.

Gran Canaria is brimming with dreamy hotels, views for days, mouthwatering dishes, kind and friendly people, culture and relaxation – it’s one of the best holiday destinations right now.
