Maybe it's time to trade in the reporter's notebook for a passport to the Nordic island, because an all-new Black Mirror immersive experience is suggesting my next calling is as an ambassador for Iceland.
Nestled in the heart of Shoreditch, amidst the vibrant tapestry of art, technology, and culture, lies a captivating immersive experience that thrusts participants into a dystopian world reminiscent of a Black Mirror episode.
Black Mirror Careers isn't just a game; it's a hilarious exploration of a future where artificial intelligence reigns supreme, and humanity must redefine its purpose. The premise is simple yet hilariously absurd: AI has taken over the world, and now it's up to you to find a new career before you're replaced by a sentient toaster.
Teamed up with three fantastic girls at Immersive Gamebox – one being my colleague, Amy – and two other thrill-seekers eager to find their new "career," I dove into the madness.
As we navigated through the maze of interactive challenges powered by projection mapping, 3D motion tracking, and surround sound, laughter bubbled up at the sheer absurdity of it all. We laughed, screamed, danced, and played our way through, tackling team exercises like passing a ball across the screen and drawing bizarre patterns with our bodies.
Designed to measure reasoning, communication, and leadership skills, the experience also ensured we became fast friends with strangers as we yelled and cheered our way through the puzzles.
After what felt like a workout equivalent to 60 minutes of non-stop running, our experience concluded, and we were handed our chosen careers.
As expected, they didn't quite add up – but it was a riot seeing our scores and the hypothetical jobs assigned to us. Amy got the gig as a crash test dummy, and I was dubbed the 'Ambassador to Iceland.'
Overall, Black Mirror Careers is a triumph of immersive storytelling.
For fans of Black Mirror or anyone seeking thought-provoking experiences, this is a must-visit attraction in Shoreditch. Just be prepared to question everything you thought you knew about the world and your place in it.
Immersive Gamebox founder and CEO, Will Dean, says: “Black Mirror Careers gives both fans of the TV show and newcomers a chance to dive into a fully imagined dystopian universe in a fun and exciting way.
“Our mission at Immersive Gamebox is to bring people together through shared play, a perfect antidote to the increased isolation and polarization in society, represented by the battle between Elon Von Percent and Zuck Markerberg, and their opposing organizations."
