From the team behind South Bank’s private dining igloos and raclette bar comes this wintery après ski-inspired pop-up right in the heart of London’s bustling West End.
Chalet Suisse, by Jimmy Garcia has returned once again to Somerset House for the festive season.
Running until December 31, it takes over the West Wing of Somerset House transforming it into a wintery cosy alpine restaurant.
The pop up, which has room for 110 people, has been created in collaboration with Tourism Switzerland to bring diners an authentic Swiss dining experience.
Classic Swiss recipes which sing the praises of the nation’s love of cheese have been recreated using British produce and Swiss cheese, naturally.
The pop up’s hero dish of fondue uses a blend of Gruyère and Vacherin, and there’s a vegan version also.
This dish, designed to be shared, comes with various additions such as sautéed wild mushrooms or winter black truffles, as well as a host of morsels to dip into it, such as a selection of continental cold cuts and charcuterie, new potatoes, cornichons and sourdough baguettes.
Other dishes include a confit duck bun which is loaded with duck leg, gruyere cheese, pickles and a truffle emulsion, a traditional croque monsieur with mustard béchamel sauce, gruyere, honey roasted ham and a side of new potatoes.
There’s also a Swiss style macaroni cheese on offer as well, alplermagronen, made with Swiss cheese sauce, caramelised apple sauce, sautéed willed mushroom and fresh apple.
Desserts are equally as indulgent, with a fresh waffle topped with salted caramel sauce, vanilla cream, kitsch-soaked cherries and cherry ice cream on offer, along side a croissant bread and butter pudding with apricot jam and vanilla ice-cream.
And while the pop-up boasts full après ski vibes, it’s an ideal spot for a meal post skate around Somerset House’s magical and wintery ice-skating rink Skate.
